Salt and Light
“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. 14 “You are the light of the world. About
History of the Northern District
The Northern District is one of two districts making up the North Carolina Conference of the AME Church’s Second Episcopal District. The Presiding Prelate of the Second Episcopal District is Bishop Harry L. Seawright.
Rev. Thomas O. Nixon is the Presiding Elder of the Northern District North Carolina Conference. The Northern District has a desire to get “Back to the Basics” in its spiritual leadership and in building community through faith and service. A strong emphasis is placed on the power of prayer.
Presiding Elder Thomas Nixon
Reverend Thomas O’Neal “T.O.” Nixon became presiding Elder of the Second Episcopal District Northern District North Carolina Conference in 2023. Prior to becoming Presiding Elder, he was Pastor of St. Stephen A.M.E Church in Wilmington, NC. He originally came out of St. John AME Church Hampstead, NC.
He has served with distinction at many churches to include Bethel AME in Selma, NC and St. Paul AME in Chapel Hill. NC. In June of 2026 Presiding Elder Thomas O Nixon will be celebrating his 45th Ministerial Anniversary. He is the recipient of many distinguished honors and awards during his many years of dedicated service.
